Digital Publishing Suite Upgrade

One would think that Adobe would have their heads wrapped around the release of Creative Suite 6, focused solely on getting CS6 up to the typical standards we have all grown accustom to. These standards, however, apply across the board for Adobe's product lines. Adobe has reminded us of this with its upgrade to the Digital Publishing Suite (DPS). DPS is used to format magazines for mobile devices. Adobe has historically caught quite a bit of slack for somewhat ignoring "new" digital media. Formally stuck in its ways, the company has clearly acknowledged the importance of designing platforms for the digital media of today.

The advancements to the Digital Publishing Suite are critical to the ability to create digital versions of work to be displayed on current platforms. Let's take a look at the most notable changes and upgrades to Adobe's Digital Publishing Suite:

Social Sharing – many of us have been long awaiting this capability. Using the Digital Publishing Suite application, readers can now easily share through email, Facebook, or Twitter. Some say, "it's about time", but we choose to concentrate on the ability for this application to turn readers into subscribers. Awesome addition.

iPhone Compatibility – with the new Content Viewer, DPS finally catches up to the times. Now, iPhone and iPod Touch devices in addition to the iPad, Kindle Fire and Android tablets, can display DPS flawlessly.

Adobe Edge & InDesign – now, Digital Publishing Suite integrates perfectly with Adobe Edge. In addition, you can now repurpose a single layout for a variety of device sizes using the Alternative Layout function that comes equipped with InDesign CS6.

Font Rights – with the new rights apparent, customers using DPS can display a variety of embedded fonts from a segment of the Adobe Type Library.

Overall, the upgrades that Adobe has made to Digital Publishing Suite will prove to not only extend the capability of digital platforms, but Adobe should also see a substantial increase in user-ship.

Touch-Sensing Technology

At Little Soft Shop, we pride ourselves on carrying only the most premium software products on the market. As on of the biggest online software shops in the world, we must stay on top of the most current advancements in software and technology. In quite a surprising twist, the scientists at Disney Research are in the works of developing a world-changing technology. This privately owned touch-sensing technology called Touché would give touchscreen capabilities to some truly shocking substances and objects.

Disney's invention pushes technology in an incredible direction, pressing the limits of how we can take a somewhat simple concept, touchscreen competency, and transform it to employ to a magnitude of different applications. As a software company, we constantly take news like this and reflect back to our core. How will this advancement affect software products from Adobe? What about Internet security software? What changes will take place in order to give safety and security to objects and substances affected by Disney's Touché.

So, what can this new technology actually do? While many of the questions are still largely unanswered, there are quite a few exciting facts that are sure to have anyone on the edge of their seat.

Below we highlight some of the most sensational elements of Disney's touch-sensing technology, Touché:

While typical touchscreens on smartphones and the like use a "swipe" sensory mechanism, the Touché can read complicated configurations. Moving past a single electrical frequency, this new technology can read and recognize not only a much wider range electrical frequencies, but also distinguishes and detects gestures.

With the vast number of applications, Touché can be used on everyday objects like walls, doorknobs, and even couches.

Even further, Touché can be utilized with substances. Touch-sensing technology can be applied to any kind of liquid, easily. Imagine the day when a swimming pool can detect a child who cannot swim; that day is coming very, very soon.

Those snippets only scratch the surface of Touché incredible future. Stay tuned; the future is coming at a shockingly rapid rate.
Adobe After Effects in 3D

Adobe After Effects is included with your purchase of Adobe Design Premium. After Effects is the professional standard for motion graphics, compositing, and visual effects for video. Designers can work with video, audio, still images, or Adobe Illustrator. Manipulate these objects in either 2D or 3D. The 3D world in After Effects comes with real lights and cameras to render your creations in a stunningly authentic fashion.

Effects are one of the most useful and fun parts of using After Effects. Fractal noise has consistently been one of the most trusted and utilized effects. Fractal noise is basically a pattern generator. It can be used to create natural textures like fabric, water, clouds, fire, wood grain, etc. Up until now, this plug-in has only been available in 2D. Today, Adobe released Fractal Noise in 3 dimensions. This allows for integrating noise in 3D composites.

This new plug-in chooses between 3 geometry modes; uniform, horizontal, and spherical. Manipulate the 3D renders by using a depth map and determine the noise interaction in space. Set the fadeout distance to change the depth of the texture and effect. You can even add 3D spotlights! This all makes for a shockingly authentic feel and a professional presentation for your project.

This is just one of many plug-in’s available for Adobe After Effects. Buy Adobe Design Premium to take advantage of thousands of other tools and applications. After Effects is used for the most professional and advanced projects in the industry. Users can smoothly integrate animated 3D objects with 2D video footage and add effects like Fractal noise 3D to create beautiful video art. For example, the Academy Award winning film, Hugo, was shot in 3D and rendered in Adobe Design Premium, using tools and plug-ins that are available to everyone!

The Future of Yahoo

In the software industry, changes occur on a daily basis. Advancements in technology push us forward to new thinking and fresh ideas. So, when Yahoo announced that they would lay off 2,000 employees last week, we didn't expect to see many new additions for quite some time. However, Yahoo is not just restructuring, they are completely reorganizing the company in some seriously far-reaching ways. With the addition of three new business units: consumer, regions and technology, Yahoo has set the stage for some vast improvements.

While the consumer and regions departments will prove to be advantageous for Yahoo as a whole, we would like to focus on the technology aspect. As software proponents, it is difficult to read this news without taking a step back and analyzing its potential. Yahoo technology, what could that mean? We have a feeling they may shy away from being "another Google". If that is the case, will software be Yahoo's next target? We hope so.

All speculation about Yahoo as of late points to its tech team. What are they doing in the midst of this restructure? Are they working towards improvements to previous technology? Quite possibly, but we project something much bigger. As Yahoo continues to move away from Google's shadow, we predict an effort to infiltrate the software industry. Assumptions aside, Yahoo is most certainly planning something significant for the upcoming months.

What you do predict for the future of Yahoo? Only time will tell, but our fingers are crossed for the development of software.

Do you have the newest PC operating software available? If so, you are running Windows 7. If not, you may be running Windows Vista, Windows XP, or an even earlier operating system. Many sources reviewed Windows Vista negatively, losing Microsoft countless customers after its late 2007 release. However, if you are one of those PC users who never gave Windows another chance, or you have simply never used Windows 7, read on and reconsider! Windows 7 gives users a faster, smarter, and simply a more exciting platform on which to use your PC.

The overall look of Windows is 7 significantly improved, including a newly retooled taskbar, new wallpapers, and handy new features like Snap, Shake, and Peek that give users unprecedented control. For example, simply drag a window to either side of the screen and watch as it "snaps" to fit that half of the screen perfectly. You can also aim your cursor over a minimized window to see a translucent preview of its contents. These great new features go on and on.

If you search our product list, you will see that there are six separate versions of Windows 7. There are 32bit and 64bit versions of Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate. Wondering which one to get? The following is a brief explanation of the core differences.

Windows 7 32-bit vs. 64-bit

The 64-bit version of Windows handles large amounts of RAM more effectively than a 32-bit system. Typically, if your computer has 4GB of RAM of more, the 64-bit version would be your best choice and vice-versa.

Windows 7 Home Premium Edition – Windows 7 Professional – Windows 7 Ultimate

Features exclusive to Professional and Ultimate:

Run in Windows XP Mode

Alongside the Creative Cloud, Adobe's CS6 has garnered quite a buzz around software hopefuls who are eagerly anticipating features that will ease their design efforts. While changes range from slight to drastic, Adobe is making a bold move to guarantee an easy introduction to the software industry. Photoshop CS6 is now available for beta testing, free and open to the public, to flesh out any last minute kinks prior to release.

Let's take a look at the most noticeable differences in Adobe's Photoshop CS6:

New interface: Photoshop CS6 has gone dark with a new, sleek look. Fear not, you can actually go in and change the colors of the interface at will.

Advanced Cropping: enhancements to crop tools will help you to make edits beyond the scope of the familiar grid in Photoshop CS5.

We only touched on the most prominent features, but Adobe has certainly made some significant changes to the software that will lead to enhanced workflow and efficiency in all aspects of design.

Adobe Creative Suite 6

Adobe has garnered quite a fan base over the years. Everyone from software advocates to software developers understands and appreciates the vast contributions Adobe has bestowed upon the industry. The company, as a whole, continues to push the envelope in terms of propelling industry standards forward, while meeting the needs of designers and developers across the world. Adobe's big push for Creative Suite 6 is surely an anticipated one. Software proponents would all agree that regardless of what CS6 has to offer, competing companies would indeed follow suite. The two most significant changes in Adobe CS6 will most certainly be the cloud subscription and its HTML support. Let's take a look at each addition and how it will impact the future of software.

The Creative Cloud
The Creative Cloud costs $600 annually and yes, that sounds like a pretty expensive purchase. However, we must analyze what this subscription entails and what the bang per buck really involves. While individual users have the option to pay monthly ($50 per month), $600 is quite a daunting number and it has many up in arms. Nevertheless, Adobe has provided the support behind this number in terms of what CS6 and the Creative Cloud has to offer. The Creative Cloud includes access to the full Master Suite if CS product lines, the full Touch suite for tablets, Lightroom, the brand new Edge and Muse toolkit (say goodbye to Flash), and the Digital Publishing Suite. Still not impressed? CS6 and the Creative Cloud come equipped with a Dropbox-esque feature to share files online.

The New Adobe
In the past, Adobe seemed to demand that the world adhere to its own style and web standards. That was the old Adobe, the new Adobe, however, is ready to tackle HTML and embrace the new Web standards that they adamantly opposed before. In addition, CS6 will also welcome a myriad of apps compatible with tablets. While this may seem like a no brainer to the common software user, this is an enormous step for Adobe. For the record, Adobe has not abandoned Flash. The point here is that the company is taking a giant leap, proving to the software community that Adobe will not only be around for the long haul, but that they will have a significant impact on the software and Web industry as a whole.
